Students & Training

We pride ourselves in being able to offer a variety of work experience as well as training positions

Here at Axe Valley Vets we pride ourselves in being able to offer a variety of work experience as well as training positions for a variety of applicants. For full details please read our various options below.

Work experience

With many employers now opting not to take part in work experience for school students we are often inundated with requests from school students for work experience. Students under the age of 18 years will only be accepted as part of the schools work experience programme. They will need to complete the application form and submit this along with a covering letter to emilyb@axevalleyvets.co.uk.

Nurse training

Here at Axe Valley Vets we pride ourselves on our training programme which has so far produced 6 RVN’s with another three in the pipeline.

We receive many letters each year with requests for nurse training placements. At Axe Valley we employ potential nursing students as Kennel Assistants for at least 1 year prior to sending them to college.

We don’t currently have any Kennel Assistant positions available. For all requests for training placements please send a covering letter with your CV to: Amanda Churches (Head Nurse) amanda@axevalleyvets.co.uk.

Vet students

Axe Valley is a foster practice for the University of Bristol Veterinary School at Langford. We accept Veterinary Students from their third year of study until their final year. These students will attend the practice to gain valuable knowledge and training from our experienced vets to ensure that, once qualified, they will have a good grounding to begin their career as a Veterinary Surgeon.

All veterinary students attending Axe Valley are supervised by our experienced Veterinary Surgeons who train them in all aspects of clinical work within veterinary practice, which involves them assisting with surgical procedures. Should you not wish to participate in the education and training of veterinary students please make this known to staff when you attend the surgery.

To apply for a placement at Axe Valley for your EMS please contact Harriet via email harriet@axevalleyvets.co.uk

Please include; Name, University, Year of Study, CV and rough dates if known. Please be aware we book up quickly (up to 1 year in advance).

"Axe Valley Veterinary Practice is a great choice for anyone wanting to experience traditional mixed practice in the heart of Somerset. There is a pretty even split between farm and small animal work and ample opportunity to get actively involved in both and develop your day one skills. Axe Valley has a lovely friendly team who are a pleasure to work with and will make you feel welcome and help you to find your feet as a student".
